Agriculture
Agriculture is one of the most critical industries in the 29th Congressional District and in New York. I served as Chairman of the New York State Senate Agriculture Committee and now serve as the only Republican member of the House Agriculture Committee from the Northeast. Some of the critical issues facing agriculture today include crop insurance, specialty crop funding, country of origin labeling, animal identification, and the Canadian border opening.    Read More...

Crime
In order to create safer neighborhoods, law enforcement in our towns and cities must have the necessary tools and resources. Although decreasing crime rates are encouraging, and the violent crime rate in the United States is at the lowest in three decades, we must continue our battle to end crime.    Read More...

Economy, Jobs and Tax Relief
Families around this nation are struggling with rising energy prices, healthcare costs, and skyrocketing inflation. The last thing American families need is job-killing tax increases. During my time in Congress, I have fought to lower your taxes so you can keep more of your hard-earned money. I will continue to aggressively fight to keep jobs in the 29th Congressional District, by promoting sound tax policy, improving our transportation infrastructure, bolstering education, and helping our small family farms.    Read More...

Education
Our congressional district is home to some of the best schools, colleges, and universities in the state and in the nation. As the former Chairman of the New York State Senate Committee on Education and a current member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, it's important to me to know what's going on in our schools and, importantly, hear from constituents about their ideas for improving our education system.    Read More...

Energy
The foreshadowing of our current energy crisis arose in the 1970’s when our nation chose to increase energy use without establishing a viable long-term solution to our foreign energy addiction. We cannot wait for the brilliant scientists, engineers, and innovators to invent the solution; we need to take action now to achieve energy independence. My comprehensive energy agenda embraces legislation that will finally bring down energy prices and reduce our dependence on foreign sources of energy by investing in American made energy, improving energy conservation, and promoting new, clean, and reliable sources of energy. The recent fuel price increase can be attributed to a number of factors, and as such, we need a multi-faceted strategy to combat this energy crisis    Read More...

Health Care
There are 47 million Americans who are living without health insurance and hundreds of thousands of low-income children who are uninsured. Health care costs continue to skyrocket faster than inflation, which is causing an additional squeeze on the already tight family budget. Americans deserve more affordable and more widely available health care. We must modernize our health care system. In addition, we must make prevention a national priority.    Read More...

Homeland Security
As the Vice Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee, it is my job to provide greater security within our nation's airports and on our aircraft, and develop new ways to protect Americans that choose to fly. Some of these new protections since 9/11 include federal marshals on commercial airlines, law enforcement personnel at every airport screening location, and strict federal oversight of the nation's airline security screening programs.    Read More...

Medicare
In 2003, Congress passed sweeping Medicare reform, which included Medicare Part D, a voluntary prescription drug coverage program for America senior citizens. Prior to Medicare Part D, many seniors in the 29th District had no prescription drug coverage and were forced to spend a large portion of their fixed income on prescription drugs.    Read More...

Transportation
The 29th Congressional District of New York has a strong transportation infrastructure that is critical to the economic development of the entire state. Because of this, I have made transportation issues one of my top priorities in Washington.    Read More...

Veteran Affairs
Support for our veterans must always be an American issue and never a partisan issue as our nation’s veterans are defending each one of our rights as American citizens. We must do what is best for veterans, which means providing full funding, ensuring that they have access to the best healthcare and education opportunities, and reducing the cumbersome burdens they endure to get their deserved benefits. These are our nation’s heroes and we must never let our fellow Americans forget their bravery or their sacrifice    Read More...

War On Terror
Congress has continued to appropriate funds to support the war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. This money supports additional equipment and armor that our troops require in addition to restructuring of forces to operate more efficiently and effectively. The new government of Iraq is continuing to make progress, with the Iraqi Security Force due to take over security in all 18 Iraqi provinces by the end of next year, alleviating the burden of the United States and Multinational Forces.    Read More...
